New Delhi/UNI: Reigning Olympic javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra, paralympics champions Sumit Antil and Pramod Bhagat have been honoured with the Padma Shri.

They received the country's fourth-highest civilian award from President Ram Nath Kovind in the Civil Investiture Ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday.

Chopra had won the gold in men's javelin with a throw of 87.58m last year and became the first Indian track and field athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympics.

Antil clinched a gold in the F64 Men's javelin throw at the Tokyo Paralympics.

He hurled the javelin a distance of 68.55m, shattering the world record multiple times in his category.

World No. 1 para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat clinched the gold in Men's Singles SL3 event.

The Padma awards are conferred in three categories -- Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri and given in various disciplines such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

This year, a total of 128 Padma Awards were conferred in a two-part ceremony. 'Padma Vibhushan' is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; 'Padma Bhushan' for distinguished service of high order and 'Padma Shri' for distinguished service in any field.
