New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) The Delhi and District Cricket Association on Tuesday announced to rename the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium as Arun Jaitley Stadium in the memory of its former president who passed away on August 24.

However, the name of the ground will remain as Feroz Shah Kotla Ground.

Jaitley was president of DDCA from 1999-2003, got the stadium renovated into a modern infrastructure, increasing its capacity to accommodate more fans and building world class dressing rooms and other cricketing facilities.

"In a fitting tribute to its former president ArunJaitley , Delhi and District Cricket Association has decided to name Ferozeshah Kotla stadium as Arun Jaitley Stadium. The stadium will be named Arun Jaitley stadium but the name of the ground will remain as Ferozeshah Kotla ground," DDCA President Rajat Sharma tweeted.

"It was ArunJaitley 's support and encouragement that players like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Rishabh Pant and many others could make India proud," Sharma further tweeted.

The renaming function will be held on September 12 at Weightlifting Auditorium, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Home Minister Amit Shah will be chief guest, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju will be guest of honour, Sharma said.
