North Calcutta Rifle Club emerges as champion in 51st State Shooting Championship 2018

Kolkata, July 31 (IBNS): Host North Calcutta Rifle Club became the champion in the 51st State Shooting Championship 2018, held at the club shooting ranges from July 23 to 29.

They were closely followed by Joydeep Karmakar Shooting Academy, who finished in runner up position.

This year almost 550 shooters participated in this competition, including star shooter Mehuli Ghosh and former junior World Champion Subhankar Pramanik.

However new faces Abhinav Shaw and Arnisha Chowdhury stole the show with their scintillating performance in Air Rifle Events.

10-year-old Abhinav Shaw from Asansol Rifle Club, who also trains under Joydeep Karmakar, turned out to be a sensation in 10 Meter Air Rifle (Men) events.

With a score of 395/500 he touched Senior State record and created new record for Youth category in this event and won Two individual Gold.

However, Soumodip das of Serampore Rifle Club won Gold in Junior Men category of this 10 M Air Rifle Event with a new record breaking score of 396/400. Abhinav got silver in this event.

It was all about  Arnisha Chowdhury of North Calcutta Rifle Club  in 10 Meter Air Rifle women event. She beat her much glorified competitor Mehuli Ghosh who represented Joydeep Karmakar Shooting Academy, via tie-breaker to win Gold in both Senior and Junior Category of this event. Arnisha won her third Gold in the youth category of this event. With a score of 397/400 both Arnisha and Mehuli equaled State Record of this event, with Ayushi Podder.

However Mehuli retained her Gold in Air Rifle (Mixed Team) event pairing with Tanay Kanti De of JKSA.

In 50 Meter Three Psition event experienced Bibaswan Ganguly of DGQA maintained his supremacy and won Gold. In 50 Meter Rifle Prone event Kumardeep Mukherjee and Ankita Gupta of Serampore  won gold in Men and Women category respectively.

In pistol events shooters from Dharampore Rifle Club lead by former Junior India shooter Arjun Das, dominated the show. However shooters from North Calcutta Rifle Club gave them a tough fight.
