Olympics 2024: Manika Batra becomes first Indian table tennis player to reach Round of 16

Paris/IBNS: Scripting history, Manika Batra became the first Indian table tennis player to reach the Round of 16 in the Olympics on Monday.

Manika entered the singles pre-quarterfinals of Olympics 2024 with a clean 4-0 win over world number 18, Prithika Pavade.

The 29-year-old won the contest with 11-9, 11-6, 11-9, 11-7 over Pavade at the global sporting event, which is being held in Paris.

Manika had reached the Round of 32 in the last Olympics which was held in Tokyo.

Applauding Manika, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju posted on X,"Good going @manikabatra_TT Keep up the high spirit and make India Proud!"

On Sunday, Shooter Manu Bhaker secured India's first medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, winning bronze in the Women's 10m Air Pistol final at the Chatearoux Shooting Center.

The achievement made Bhaker the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting at the Olympic Games.
