Indian athlete Praveen Kumar clinched the gold medal in the men's high jump T64 event at the ongoing Paralympics, marking a record-breaking event for the country.

In his successful attempt, Kumar cleared 2.08 meters to claim his second consecutive Paralympic medal.

He won the silver medal in 2021 Tokyo Paralympics with a personal best score of 2.07 meters.

Kumar continued his winning streak and bettered his previous performance in Paris.

Kumar is only the second Indian Paralympic athlete after Mariyappan Thangavelu to win a gold medal in the high-jump event.

The silver medal was won by USA's Derek Loccident.

Uzbekistan's Temurbek Giyazov grabbed bronze.

After Kumar's inspirational performance, India's tally improved further to 26.

Congratulating the Indian athlete, Kumar posted on X: " Congratulations to Praveen Kumar for scaling new heights and winning a Gold in the Men's High Jump T64 at the #Paralympics2024!"

"His determination and tenacity have brought glory to our nation," he said.
