Pune, Feb 24 (IBNS) After making history by becoming the first-ever I-League Club to conduct 'Open Trials' for a women's side, Pune FC's newly formed Women’s Team got down to business with the start of their regular training sessions.

The 24-member squad which was shortlisted from the ‘Open Trials’ have been training under Coach Kalpana Dass, an AFC ‘B’ License holder, since the past couple of weeks at the Maharashtriya Mandal Sports Complex in Mukundnagar.

Coach Kalpana was excited about the developments and speaking on the talent shortlisted for the team, she said, “During our selections, we looked for young, energetic and good first-touch players, which strengthens the team and also meets the quality of the game."

She further added, "Being the first I-League team for women, I am sure the expectation is high... and to fulfill the same is the motive as we move ahead."

Having completed the registration process with the Poona District Football Association, the team will now be looking forward to participate in the first-ever Women’s League to be conducted by the district body soon.

For the first two months, the Pune FC Women’s team will have sessions thrice a week at the Maharashtriya Mandal Sports Complex Turfs.

Going forward, Pune FC aims to expand the system with increased frequency in sessions and also by starting an Under-15 team to train girls from a young age.
