Rio: Virginia Thrasher clinches first gold medal of the event

Rio de Janeiro, Aug 6 (IBNS): America's Virginia Thrasher clinched the first gold medal of the Olympics in the women's 10m air rifle event on Saturday.

"Congrats to Virginia Thrasher #USA on winning the first #Rio2016. #shootingsport via @ISSF_Shooting," Rio 2016 tweeted.

This was the first gold medal won by any athlete in this edition of the game.

She scored 208 points to beat China's Li Du.

Siling Yu of China won bronze.
