Miami, Mar 25 (IBNS): Swiss Tennis master Roger Federer was left shocked as he was defeated in the  second round of the Miami Open by Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis on Saturday.

The Australian defeated the current world number one  3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Following the defeat, Federer will cede the top spot to Spanish arch-rival Rafael Nadal when the ranking list is released next.

Federer said he will skip the clay court this season.

Which means, he will not be playing in the French Open.

Federer had to reach the quarter-finals of the Miami Open to maintain the number one position in the ranking list.
