Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli slam centuries as India beat West Indies by 8 wickets

Guwahati, Oct 21 (IBNS): Indian skipper Virat Kohli (140) and Rohit Sharma (152*) raced to score centuries as they helped their team beat West Indies by eight wickets in a high-scoring first ODI match of the series here on Sunday.

After West Indies posted massive 322 runs in their quota of 50 overs by losing only eight wickets, India scored 326 runs by losing only two wickets with 47 balls to spare.

Following Shikhar Dhawan's (4) departure, Sharma and Kohli added 246 runs in the second wicket partnership which helped India nearly clinch the match.

Sharma hit 15 boundaries and six sixes in the innings while Kohli added 21 boundaries and two over boundaries in his knocks that completely shattered the West Indies bowling attack.

After Kohli departed, Ambati Rayudu added unbeaten 22 runs with his willow.

India took 1-0 lead in the series.

Thomas and Bishoo picked up a wicket each for West Indies.

Earlier, West Indies added 322 runs in their 50 overs.

Shimron Hetmyer (106) remained the top scorer for West Indies.
