Saina happy over Sania being named brand ambassador of Telangana

Hyderabad, July 24 (IBNS): Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal on Thursday congratulated Tennis star Sania Mirza for being projected as the brand ambassador of the new state of Telangana.

" I am happy to know that sania mirza has become the brand ambassador of telengana and I am proud of telengana," Nehwal tweeted.

Nehwal made the remark on a day when Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) objected to Sania Mirza being projected as the Brand Ambassador of the state.

BJP legislative party chief K Laxman said they are opposed to her role as a brand ambassador since she is a non-local.

BJP apparently also objected to her being a daughter-in-law of Pakistan since Sania is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.

Mirza said it 'hurts' her that time is being wasted on petty issues.

"It hurts me that so much precious time of prominent politicians and the media is being wasted on a petty issue of my being appointed the Brand Ambassador of my State of Telangana. I sincerely believe that this precious time should be spent on solving the more urgent issues of our State and country," she said in a statement .
