Shanghai/Xinhua/UNI:  Chinese Super League (CSL) outfit Shanghai SIPG defender Zhang Wei has donated 1,000 cotton slippers to Shanghai medical team in Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak, according to Shanghai local media.

Hearing that the temperature in Wuhan is going down, Zhang bought 1,000 cotton slippers in one day to meet the desperate need of the medical staff, hoping they could take good care of themselves while treating patients.

"I wish what I did could make them feel a little warmer," he said.

Apart from Zhang Wei, SIPG goalkeeper Yan Lingjun also paid attention to the coming cold air in Wuhan. He entrusted his friend to buy more than 200 boxes of heating pads online, some of which were sent to the inspectors at highway entries in Shanghai, while others were given to the medical staff from Shanghai aiding Hubei Province.

"Medical staff in Wuhan said it is cold now at night, so I tried to provide some useful stuff," said Yan.

The new CSL season, originally scheduled for February 22 has been postponed due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
