Dubai, Mar 30 (IBNS) The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 has approved Lendl Simmons as a replacement player for Andre Fletcher in the West Indies’ men’s squad for the tournament.

Fletcher pulled a right hamstring during the match against Afghanistan in Nagpur on Sunday and has been ruled out of further participation in the tournament.

The 31-year-old Simmons has represented the West Indies in eight Tests, 68 ODIs and 34 T20Is. In the shortest version of the game, he has scored 761 runs a strike-rate of just under 114. Simmons was a member of the West Indies side which won the ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012 and played his last T20I was against South Africa in Durban in January 2015.

Any injury or illness-based replacement requires a written submission to the Event Technical Committee along with a diagnosis from a medical practitioner as to the extent of the injury or illness. Once replaced, a player may not return to the squad save as an approved subsequent replacement for another injured or ill player.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 is Geoff Allardice (ICC General Manager – Cricket, Chairman), Anurag Thakur (host representative), MV Sridhar (Tournament Director), Campbell Jamieson (IBC representative & ICC General Manager – Commercial), and Ian Bishop and Nick Knight ((independent nominees).

West Indies will take on host and 2007 champion India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai at 19h00 on Thursday, 31 March.
