New Delhi, Aug 5 (IBNS): The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal said that the main objective of the 'Target Olympic Podium' (TOP) Scheme is to identify potential medal winners for Olympics particularly Rio Olympics, 2016.

One hundred and two sportspersons in various disciplines have been identified or selected under the scheme so far.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Sonowal said the players are selected on the basis of merit and potential for future performance not on the basis of state representation.
