US Open: Novak Djokovic defeats Roger Federer to win his second US Open Grand Slam

New York, Sept 14 (IBNS) In a big, full-house final on Sunday, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer entertained the crowd with some scintillating tennis for 3 hours and 20 minutes, post which Djokovic lifted his second US Open Men’s Singles Grand Slam title beating the Swiss legend in a four set match.

The final was delayed as rain played its part but there was no stopping Djoker. The Serb served past his way, 6-4 in the opening set lasting 41 minutes.

The second set lasted for an hour and two minutes, the longest of the match. It belonged to the former world number one who made a comeback with a 7-5 win.

Federer for most part of the game did things right. He served 11 aces in comparison to his opponents 3, had a higher percentage of first serve points, served a touch quicker and covered more distances but it was Djokovic's dogged play than truly thawed these threats.

Novak won the third set 6-4 to take a 2-1 lead in the match and ended it with another 6-4 win in the ensuing set to clinch his 10th Singles Grand Slam title.

Djoker came close to winning a calendar slam, but lost out when he finished runners up in Roland Garros, better than he had acquired in 2011.

FedEx came close to claiming his 6th US Open Men’s Singles title but the same story prevailed. Months ago Djokovic had defeated him in the Wimbledon finals and he did it here again.

Federer won his last major trophy in 2012 Wimbledon and for three years now the past champion has gone barren. With 17 Singles Grand Slams he still tops the chart.
