World Dragon Boat Championship winners felicitated in Kolkata

Kolkata/IBNS: Six specially abled and under privileged Paddlers from West Bengal- Sumanta Murmu, Ramesh Hembrom, Rejayan Karim, Arghaya Biswas, Sayan Dolui and Apurba Samanta, who won ten medals at the World Dragon Boat Championship, were jointly felicitated by Bengal Dragon Boat & Traditional Spots Association and Bengal Water Sports here on Monday. 

They won a total of ten medals including a gold, four silvers and five bronzes at the World Dragon Boat Championship for Para and Mixed (para plus non-para paddlers) categories held at  Rayong, Thailand from August 7 to August 13.

While Sumanta Murmu was in the gold medal winning team in 2000 metre race for mixed Para beside being with only Para team which bagged a silver in 2000m, Ramesh Hembram got a silver in all Para team in 2000m and a bronze in mixed para team for 5000m.

 

Rejayan earned a silver in 2000 m for all para teams and a bronze in 500 m for general and mixed Para team.

Argha Biswas also earned two medals- a silver in 500m race for general and mixed para team and a bronze in 2000m for all para team.

Sayan Dolui and  Apurba Samanta both earned a bronze each in the 2000m all Para team.

A total of 63 countries took part in this championship, the secretary of Bengal Water Sports informed.
