Lufthansa adds new flights to Santa’s Hometown Rovaniemi, Finland

Lufthansa is expanding its winter flight schedule for 2026/27 with the launch of a new direct route by between its Munich hub and Rovaniemi, starting December 4, 2026.

The expansion also includes increased frequencies on existing routes to destinations in Finland and Norway, strengthening its presence in the Nordic region.

The new Munich–Rovaniemi service will operate twice weekly on Fridays and Sundays. Flight LH2466 will depart Munich at 11:30 a.m. local time and arrive in Rovaniemi at 3:45 p.m., while the return flight LH2467 will leave Rovaniemi at 4:40 p.m. and land in Munich at 6:55 p.m.

The route will be operated using the Airbus A320Neo, a narrow-body aircraft known for improved fuel efficiency and reduced noise emissions.

Rovaniemi, widely marketed as the “Home of Santa Claus", serves as the capital of Finland’s Lapland region and remains a key winter tourism hub, particularly during the holiday season.

Alongside the new route, Lufthansa said it will increase capacity on several existing Nordic services. Flights on the Frankfurt–Tromsø and Munich–Tromsø routes will each see an addition of two weekly connections.

Seasonal capacity enhancements are also planned between February and March 2027, including a third weekly Frankfurt–Rovaniemi flight, a second weekly Frankfurt–Kuusamo service, and additional frequencies on the Munich–Kittilä route.

The expansion reflects growing demand for travel to Nordic and Arctic destinations, the group said in a statement.

In addition to Lufthansa, other group carriers, including Austrian Airlines, Edelweiss Air, Eurowings and Discover Airlines, also operate routes to the region.
