Kabul, Nov 5 (IBNS): At least 12 newborn babies died under mysterious circumstances at a hospital in Afghanistan's Panjsher province, media reports said on Monday.

Mohammad Mansour Anabi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the babies lost their lives within one to 15 days of their birth between Saturday afternoon and Sunday in the emergency hospital.

He told the Afghanistan-based news agency that some of the babies were born in the hospital and others had been brought there for treatment after their birth.

The reason behind the death of the newborns is still not known.

An investigation into the matter has started, reports said.
