Ouagadougou,Barkina Faso, Aug 14 (IBNS) : Seventeen people have been killed and eight wounded in a "terrorist attack" that began late on Sunday in Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou, media reports said quoting the Government.

The reports quoted eyewitnesses as saying that three  gunmen opened fire on customers seated outside a Turkish restaurant.

Security forces killed the three attackers,  but some people are still reported to be trapped in the building.

The West African country has seen a surge of violence by militia men over the past few years.

The figure  of deaths was released early on Monday by Burkina Faso's communications minister Remi Dandjinou, Al Jazeera said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the violence, which continued into early Monday.
