6.0 earthquake strikes off Tokyo, 17 injured

Tokyo, May 5 (IBNS): At least 17 people were hurt as an earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Tokyo.

The epicentre of the earthquake, located at a depth of 155.1 km, was located at 34.862 degree north and 139.312 degree east, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) website said.

"17 people suffered injuries in Tokyo, Kanagawa and other prefectures in the Tokyo metropolitan area due to the 5:18 a.m. quake, which originated around 162 kilometers underground near Izu Oshima Island in the Pacific Ocean some 120 km south of Tokyo,"  Japan's Kyodo news agency reported quoting local police and fire fighters.
