Kabul: An Afghan psychiatrist has been killed by kidnappers in northern Balkh province, Pajhwok Afghan News reported on Friday.

The doctor was identified as Nadir Almi.

Almi was the first Afghanistan doctor who had opened a private psychiatric hospital in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

His family members told The Guardian that Alemi had received several threat calls and messages months before the abduction.

One chilling message, sent on June 21 and seen by the Guardian, read: “You will be killed soon.”
