Afghanistan claims capture of Pakistani pilot after jet crash; Pakistan denies

| @indiablooms | Feb 28, 2026, at 03:20 pm

Jalalabad/IBNS: Afghanistan on Saturday claimed it had captured a Pakistani pilot after a jet crashed in Jalalabad, according to media reports.

However, Pakistan strongly rejected the claim.

Islamabad’s Foreign Ministry said reports of an Afghan strike downing a Pakistani jet were “totally untrue” and dismissed the assertions as misinformation.

The latest claim comes after Afghanistan reportedly carried out aerial strikes on Pakistani border positions, which Kabul described as retaliation for earlier Pakistani air raids inside Afghan territory.

The Afghan Taliban administration accused Pakistan of bombing areas inside Afghanistan, including locations near civilian settlements, leading to casualties and damage. In response, Afghan forces allegedly targeted Pakistani military installations along the border.

Pakistan later launched counter-strikes, with explosions reported in multiple Afghan locations, including Jalalabad and other eastern regions.

Both sides have accused each other of initiating aggression, with tensions sharply escalating along the disputed Durand Line.

Independent confirmation of the aircraft crash and pilot capture remains unavailable, and the situation continues to remain volatile.
