Afghanistan: Clashes under way between armed forces and militants in Jowzjan province

Kabul, Aug 21 (IBNS): Heavy clashes between the Afghan military and militants are under way in Khamab district of Jowzjan province, local Khaama Press reported.

The agency quoted unconfirmed sources as saying that the militants have taken control of several government compounds.

However, government officials have discarded the report.

The clashes started at around 5 am of Monday, a spokesman for the Afghan army in the North, Nasratullah Jameshedi, was quoted in the media as saying.

He added that additional forces have been deployed along with coordinated airstrikes on Taliban pockets.
