Afghanistan: Gunmen attack acting Defence Minister's house

Kabul: A car bomb attack occurred close to the residence of  Afghanistan's acting Defence Minister Gen. Bismillah Mohammadi on Tuesday, media reports said.

The incident was followed by sporadic gunfire and hand grenade blasts.

The attack happened in the Shirpoor area of Kabul’s District 10, an area crowded with houses owned by high-ranking government officials, reports Tolo News.

Security forces reached the scene immediately after the attack.

A Defense Ministry spokesman told Tolo News that the defense minister is fine as he was not at his residence when the blast occurred.

The attack happened at a guesthouse belonging to the defense minister, sources told Tolo News, adding that no one from his family was hurt in the attack.

A security source told Tolo News that two attackers entered a building near to the office of Azim Mohseni, an MP from Baghlan, in the neighborhood of Bismillah Mohammadi's house following the attack.

Afghanistan is witnessing a rise in violence in recent times ever since foeign forces started leaving the country. The Taliban group has captured several regions in the war-hit nation so far.
