Ansbach, July 26 (IBNS): Militant group Islamic State on Monday claimed that a Syrian migrant, who had set off a bomb near an open-air music festival in the German city of Ansbach on Sunday, was their fighter.

"The Islamic State’s (IS) ‘Amaq News Agency reported that the July 24, 2016 suicide bombing in Ansbach was carried out by an IS fighter," SITE Intel Group website said.

The 27-year-old, who arrived in Germany two years ago, was denied asylum last year but was allowed to remain in Germany due to the ongoing conflict in Syria,  Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann was quoted  as saying by DPA.

The incident had left 12 people injured.

This was the third attack in Bavaria which occurred in a week.

Friday witnessed a shooting rampage at a shopping mall in Munich which killed nine people.

In another incident, an axe-wielding teenager had injured few people after he attacked a train in Wuerzburg.
