At least 40 dead in Turkey's attempted military coup

Ankara, July 16 (IBNS): A military coup on Friday night caught the Turks off guard as at least 40 deaths were reported in Ankara, reports said.

Condemning the incident, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that it is 'an act of treason'.

Contrary to reports, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that things are under control and 130 people had been arrested so far.

A shoot down order has been imposed by him, where any aircraft used by the coup plotters will be shot down.

The whereabouts of Turkey's military chief of staff, an alleged key plotter,  is still unknown.
