Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das has been made a prime accused in a case filed over the recent clash that took place between his followers and the police on the premises of the Chittagong court in Bangladesh recently.

Apart from Das, who is currently in prison, the case was filed against164 identified individuals and an estimated 400 to 500 unidentified people.

The case was filed by Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh activist Enamul Haque in a court in Chittagong.

The court recorded Haque's statement and is awaiting an order, according to the plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate Md Shamsul Alam, reported Dhaka Tribune.

In his case application, Haque claimed the Hindu priest's followers attacked him when he was returning home after completing his land registry work in the court on Noember 26.

Haque even claimed he was targeted since he was wearing panjabi and a cap.

He said he was rescued and admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Advocate Md Shamsul Alam told Dhaka Tribune: "Enamul Haque was assaulted on November 26 on the court premises by followers of Chinmoy Krishna Brahmachari. His right hand was fractured, and he sustained head injuries. The case names 164 individuals, with Chinmoy Krishna as the principal accused. The court has recorded the plaintiff’s statement, and the case is now pending for order."

Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested on sedition charges on November 25.

His arrest triggered massive protests by minority communities in the country and widespread global condemnation.

Minorities have been facing atrocities ever since former PM Sheikh Hasina-led government toppled and Muhammad Yunus's interim regime came into force in August.

Das's bail has been deferred till January 2.
