Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das has been shown arrested by a Chittagong court in four more cases filed with Kotwali Police Station over clashes, vandalism and attacks on cops on the court building premises last year.

Chattogram Metropolitan magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud passed the order after the investigation officers of the cases filed applications with the court to show him arrest in the cases, reported The Daily Star.

The hearing in the case was heard virtually amid security concerns.

Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of Metro Session Court Advocate Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury also confirmed the matter to the Daily Star newspaper.

With the addition of four more cases, Das is currently facing five cases in total that also include the death of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif.

Advocate Raihanul told the newspaper, "Police filed three cases and Alif's brother filed another case over vandalism on the court building premises, attacking police and general people, crude bomb explosions, and preventing police from discharging their duties during the clashes on November 26."

Bail Denied

The Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court stayed the High Court order on Wednesday, granting bail to Hindu spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a sedition case, media reports said.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by the state counsel hours after the High Court granted him bail.

The stay order will remain in force until the filing of a leave-to-appeal petition and release of the full text of the verdict.

Additional Attorney General Barrister Anik R Haque represented the state.

The Supreme Court issued the order just hours after Das the Bangladesh High Court granted bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a sedition case.

November Arrest

Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on November 25.

Firoz Khan, former general secretary of Chattogram's Mohora ward BNP, filed the case with Kotwali Police Station on October 31, where he accused Das and  18 others of disrespecting the national flag during a rally on October 25.

A Chittagong court sent him to jail on November 26 by rejecting his bail plea.

His arrest led to massive protests by the minority Hindu community in the South Asian nation which witnessed a political turmoil ever since former PM Sheikh Hasina escaped to India amid widespread violent protests against her government.

India had earlier expressed deep concern over the arrest of the Hindu leader.

Bangladesh has witnessed rising cases of attacks on Hindus ever since the Hasina-led government toppled the Muslim-majority nation.
