Dhaka, Jan 6 (IBNS) : One of the masterminds of last year's deadly Holey Artisan Bakery attack and one of his accomplices were killed in a gunfight with Bangladesh police in Dhaka early on Friday, local media reports said.

Reports quoted police as saying that  Nurul Islam Marzan, a neo JMB leader and his accomplice  were killed  when they locked in a ‘gun battle’ with a unit of counter-terrorism police near Mohammadpur Beribandh area in the capital.

The identity of Marzan's accomplice is yet to be known.

Marzan was identified as the mastermind of Holey Artisan attack on Jul 1, 2016, in which 20 people, mostly foreigners, were killed.

His wife Afrin alias Prioti was among the three arrested from Azimpur by police on Sep 10.

Earlier, a Bangladeshi-Canadian, Tamim Chowdhury, and two others were killed in a police operation in Narayanganj on August 27.
