Bill English is New Zealand's new PM

Wellington (NZ)/New Delhi, Dec 12 (IBNS): Bill English was sworn in at Government House in Wellington as New Zealand's Prime Minister, the media reported on Monday.

He succeeds John Key who resigned from office last week.

Bill English was the deputy prime minister and the finance minister for the ruling National Party.

"Excited and humbled to be elected the new Leader of the @nznationalparty with @paulabennettmp as Deputy Leader," tweeted the new PM.

"Being PM is an exciting & great honour & we're looking forward to getting to work & building on National's success," he tweeted.

Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett is now deputy prime minister , media reported.
