Regina, Aug 24 (IBNS): The Saskatchewan community will be celebrating the Humboldt Hockey Day on Friday, as the Humboldt Broncos team to step on ice for the first time since the deadly accident on a highway of the province in April this year, media reports said.

The collision between Humboldt Broncos team bus and a transport truck claimed 16 lives and left 13 others injured.

Former Humboldt Broncos president Kevin Garinger told CTV News as saying, "Today is an exciting day because we have our athletes back who are going to be vying for the team, but then on the other side of it, we will never forget all 29 people who were aboard that bus."

Garinger stepped down from his post earlier this week owing to his family, work and hockey commitments.

Sixteen people who were killed include Humboldt Broncos head coach Darcy Haugan along with several other players.

The victims include players Adam Herold, Connor Lukan, Evan Thomas, Jacob Leicht, Jaxon Joseph, Logan Boulet, Logan Hunter, Logan Schatz, Stephen Wack, Parker Tobin, team personnel Brody Hinz, Darcy Haugan, Glen Doerksen, Mark Cross and Tyler Beiber.

The team were on its way to Game 5 of a semi-final against the Nipawin Hawks.

Friday also marks the beginning of the training camp of the hockey ahead of the upcoming season.
