Canada: Some people go against evacuation order in BC to protect homes

Victoria, Aug 25 (IBNS): Some people are going against the evacuation order to protect their homes in British Columbia, where hundreds of wildfires are still active, media reports said.

Rise Johansen is one of those who preferred to stay back in Takysie to help people living at his resort.

Johansen, who is the co-owner of Takysie Lake Resort, told CTV News, "It's a very odd experience because sometimes you wouldn't even hardly know there's a fire."

She further said: "We didn't feel like we were in imminent danger the night they started to evacuate." 

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday reached central British Columbia (BC) where few hundreds of wildfires are still active, media reports said.

The Prime Minister has tasked several members of his federal government with coordinating support and rebuilding efforts.

The federal and provincial governments are working together to control this dire situation.

Trudeau on Tuesday interacted with British Columbia Premier John Horgan to discuss the present situation of wildfires and its impact on the province.

More than 20,000 people are on evacuation alert or evacuation order, CBC News reported.
