Ottawa, Jun 14 (IBNS): Canada will host the FIFA World Cup jointly with the US and Mexico in 2026, media reports said.

FIFA member associations have voted in favour of joint North American bid by the US, Canada and Mexico.

The US, Canada and Mexico have won the bid by 134-65.

According to the present blueprint, Canada and Mexico will host 10 games. The US is likely to host 60 matches.

Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal are the Canadian candidate host cities for the world cup matches.

Steven Reed, president of the Canadian Soccer Association, has been quoted by CBC News as saying the FIFA Congress' decision is "an extraordinary honour and privilege".

Reacting to the win of the bid, US Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro tweeted, "Thrilled that the 2026 World Cup is coming to the USA, Mexico and Canada!  We're ready to welcome players and fans to the greatest sporting event the world has ever seen!"

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, "Good news this morning: The 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to Canada, the US and Mexico. Congratulations to everyone who worked hard on this bid – it’s going to be a great tournament!"
