Beijing: China's Foreign Ministry has said  a Chinese former professor who taught at the Hokkaido University of Education in Japan is currently on a trial in China.

Yuan Keqin, an expert on East Asian political history, returned to China in May 2019. His family and the university later lost contact with him, reports NHK.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin told reporters as quoted by NHK on Thursday that "Yuan made full confession about his criminal conduct and that evidence in the case is clear."

Wang said Yuan has already been indicted and that a trial is underway. He stressed that Yuan's rights concerning the trial have been well guaranteed by the authorities.

But Wang did not give details about the defendant's situation, such as when he was indicted or his health, reports NHK.
