Chinese Mission expresses opposes EU-Japan remarks on Taiwan Strait issue

Beijing: The Chinese Mission to the European Union (EU) on Thursday opposed the comment passed by the EU-Japan Summit on 'Taiwan Strait' and East and South China Sea issues.

The Chinese Mission to the European Union (EU) opposed the statement and the spokesperson was quoted as saying by Xinhua: "Such remarks undermine international peace and stability, damage mutual understanding and trust between countries in the region, harm the interests of third parties and run counter to what they claim 'working for a more secure, democratic and stable world'."

The EU and Japan issued a statement following an online bilateral summit earlier Thursday, expressing serious concerns about the situation in the East and South China Seas, and underscoring the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, reports Xinhua.

The joint statement also noted that the two sides will coordinate on regional issues including Hong Kong and Xinjiang, continue exchanges on their respective relationships with China, and work together for a more secure, democratic and stable world, the news agency reported.

"Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang-related issues are China's internal affairs. The East China Sea and the South China Sea concern China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests. All these issues represent China's fundamental interests and brook no interference," said the spokesperson.
