Islamabad: Pakistan PM Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, who have tested positive with COVID-19,  are feeling "comfortable with mild symptoms".

In his tweet update, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill said: "Khan and first lady Bushra Imran are comfortable with mild symptoms. The Prime Minister and the First Lady are grateful for all your prayers and good wishes."

"The Prime Minister will continue his official duties on video conference as usual," he said.

Sixty-eight-year-old Khan has been seen on various occasions without wearing a mask.

News reports said Khan had taken the first shot of a Coivid-19 vaccine, Sinopharm, developed by China, two days ago.

Pakistan's Ministry of National Health Services issued a statement asserting the effectiveness of the Chinese vaccine.

"Prime Minister Imran Khan was not fully vaccinated when he contracted the virus. He only got the 1st dose and merely 2 days ago which is too soon for ANY vaccine to become effective. Anti-bodies develop 2-3 weeks after 2nd dose of 2-dose COVID vaccines. #VaccinesWork."
