Washington/IBNS: The death toll related to Coronavirus in the United States passed the grim mark of 20,000 making it record the highest number of casualties across the world due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

According to the John Hopkins University's Coronavirus live tracking map, the US currently has 20,604 deaths, leaving behind the death toll of Italy at 19,468.

A whopping number of 529,887 people are infected with the highly contagious virus in the United States.

About 32, 000 people have recovered so far, which is significantly low in comparison to the rate of infection.

Churches in the US are expected to remain empty during the Easter Sunday as the country continues to witness a peak in the rate of infection spread.

Globally the Coronavirus pandemic has claimed 108, 862 lives and affected 1,777,517 people across 185 nations.

The disease's original epicentre was Wuhan in China where it had an outbreak in December last year. Besides the US, Italy in Europe remains the worst-hit country.
