Donald Trump may announce visa restrictions in 2 days: Report

Washington/IBNS: US President Donald Trump on Saturday said he will make major announcements related to new restrictions on visas to certain foreign workers within two days.

In an interview to Fox News Channel, Trump said: "We're going to be announcing something tomorrow or the next day on the visas."

It has been in news for some time that the US President has been eyeing to ban the H-1B visas, through an executive order, designed to allow entry to certain skilled workers such as those employed in the tech industry.

The executive order may also suspend the L-1 visas, which are meant for executives who work for large corporations, H-2B visas for seasonal workers such as hotel and construction staff and J-1 visas, meant to allow research scholars and professors.

The move, as reported in media, might be taken to 'protect the jobs of Americans' following the devastating situation led by the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

"You need them for big businesses where they have certain people that have been coming in for a long time, but very little exclusion and they're pretty tight," Trump said. "And we may even go very tight for a period of time."

In April, Trump had ordered a temporary block on some foreigners from seeking permanent residence in the United States.

The latest ban on the immigration policy is seen as an attempt to rejuvenate the economy in the US following the pandemic.
