Donald Trump offers Elise Stefanik to become US envoy to UN

US President-elect Donald Trump has offered Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik the job of US ambassador to the UN, media reports said.

The New York congresswoman, the fourth-ranking House Republican, has been a strong ally of Trump and a major fundraiser for the GOP, reported CNN.

The return of Donald Trump as the next United States President is not good news to the United Nations going by the history of his first presidency. The possibility of brutal cuts to U.S. funding and engagement looms large over the 193-member world body.

According to a Reuters report, one of the top concerns at the U.N. is whether the US will decide to contribute less money to the UN and withdraw from key multinational institutions and agreements, including the World Health Organization and the Paris climate agreement.

Donald Trump, who earlier served as the President after the 2016 election, is returning to power for the second non-consecutive term after beating his Democratic opponent and US Vice President Kamala Harris on November 5.

Republican candidate Donald Trump won Arizona on Saturday, clinching a clean sweep in all seven swing states in the recently concluded US Presidential elections.

He ensured the 11 electoral votes to the Republican column after Democrat Joe Biden's 2020 victory.

Donald Trump, who had a career spanning from the role of a business tycoon to a TV personality, won back the White House once again in a historic US election, becoming not just the 47th American President but also the oldest POTUS to hold the office during his inauguration.

The 78-year-old's campaign as a Republican nominee for one of the most powerful positions in the world has been a dramatic one, especially after he survived two assassination attempts.
