Colombo: People protesting against the Sri Lankan government over the acute shortage of essential commodities and the current economic crisis have renamed the agitation site near the presidential secretariat "Gota Go Gama".

Protesters have renamed their agitation site which means "Gota Go Village", demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa due to the spiralling crisis.

The protesters have placed a placard renaming the 'occupying area' at the Galle Face Green as 'Gota Go Gama', NewsWire reported.

The island is facing its worst-ever economic and financial crisis. People have continued demonstrating against Gotabaya and his government over the crisis for the third consecutive day.

Demanding Gotabaya's resignation, thousands of people thronged outside the presidential secretariat, and many of them have put up tents to stay overnight at the site.

Protesters have set up temporary tents and marquees, providing food, and medicines, among other necessities, while public toilets have also been set up for the convenience of the protesting public, NewsWire said.
