Paris, Mar 23 (IBNS): A gunman has taken a person as hostage at a supermarket in French commune of Trèbes.

Police officials have rushed to the spot.

Police operation is currently underway at the Super U store in Trèbes, media reports said.

Gun shots have been heard from the scene of the incident, reports said.

"Earlier, a policeman was shot while jogging with colleagues in Carcassonne, a 15-minute drive away, but was not critically injured. It is unclear if the incidents are connected," BBC reported.

The gunmen reportedly claimed themselves to be linked with terrorist group IS.

Meanwhile, the area around the supermarket has been cordoned off.

More details are awaited.
