Gunmen kill 11 taxi drivers in South Africa

Johannesburg, July 22 (IBNS): At least 11 taxi drivers were shot dead by gunmen in South Africa when they were travelling from Johannesburg city to  Kwa-Zulu Natal area, media reports said on Sunday.

The taxi drivers were reportedly traveling in a  minibus when they were attacked.

The victims, and four others critically injured, were returning from a colleague's funeral in the coastal region of Kwa-Zulu Natal, police was quoted as saying by BBC.

The motive behind the attack is still not clear.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker was quoted as saying by BBC: "The vehicle was ambushed. There were 11 fatalities and four were seriously injured and are in hospital."

An investigation into the matter is currently going on.
