Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant Monday claimed that Hamas has lost control in Gaza more than a month after the Palestinian group launched a "surprise" attack on the nation, firing over 500 rockets.

"Hamas has lost control of Gaza. Terrorists are fleeing southward. Civilians are looting Hamas bases," Gallant said in a video broadcast address on Israel's main TV stations.
without providing evidence.

"They don't have faith in the government anymore," Gallant said.

Gaza has been under near-total Israeli siege and run short of food, fuel, and other basic supplies. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh on Monday called on the European Union and the United Nations to "parachute aid" into Gaza

On October 7, Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel from Gaza, killing and abducting people in neighboring Israeli communities.

Israel retaliated with missile strikes and a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to more than 2 million.

On October 27, Israel launched a large-scale ground incursion into Gaza with the declared goal of eliminating Hamas and rescuing the hostages.
