Imran Khan, Miftah Ismail trade barbes over Pakistan economic crisis

Islamabad: PML-N and PTI leaders recently exchanged barbs as Pakistan's economy continued to struggle and even the country's rupee maintained the losing streak against the US dollar.

Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan tweeted: "8 March 2022 when VoNC tabled $ was at Rs 178. Today it has reached Rs 250. On 8 March 2022 inflation stood at 16.5%;today it has spiralled to 38%. Not only is this Imported govt made up of crooks but it is thoroughly incompetent too. Question is who is responsible for this mess?"

In a clear instance of blame game, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail replied: "When IK came to power the rupee was 122. When he left it was 190. When he came, Pak owed Rs 25,000 bil. When he left we owed Rs 44,000 bil. In his last year Pak imported goods worth $80 bil and ran the nations highest trade deficit."

He further countered Imran Khan and said: "From Toshakhana watches to foreign funding to giving confiscated £190 mil back to demanding jewellery to Farah Khan wielding power & taking bribes, we know who is the real thief. We know who is corrupt, untruthful & incompetent. IK alone is responsible for this mess."

Imran Khan was removed from power after a no confidence motion was passed against him earlier this year.

Shehbaz Sharif took oath as PM of the country, which is battling a economic challenge, after Imran Khan's removal.
