Kabul: Kabul city is witnessing a spike in vendors amid rising poverty and unemployment.

The need for money to buy food is seen as the main cause behind people taking such decisions in a country which is currently controlled by the Taliban forces.

“There is no other work for us, we have to sell on the streets,” Jawaid, a vendor, told Tolo News.

“There is nothing left, all the people are becoming vendors because there is no other option for the people,” Mohammad Salim, another vendor, told the news portal.

Several Kabul residents said the city witnessed a spike in traffic and crowds which has been created by the increased vendors on the sidewalks of the Kabul streets and said that they are blocking the streets and they cause congestion in the city.
