Astana, July 20 (IBNS): Kazakh figure skater Denis Ten died on Thursday as he was stabbed after he tried to stop two unidentified people from stealing his car’s mirrors, media reports said.

"Now the city police and interior minister are looking for the attackers, while people are bringing candles and flowers to the site of the deadly attack," RIA Novosti reported.

World Sporting bodies condole:

The official Twitter handle of the Olympics said quoting  IOC President Thomas Bach: "'Denis Ten was a great athlete and a great ambassador for his sport. A warm personality and a charming man. Such a tragedy to lose him at such a young age.' -IOC President Thomas Bach."

The International Skating Union expressed sadness over the death of Denis.

In a tweet, the union said: "The ISU is deeply saddened by the news from media in Kazakhstan announcing the passing of Figure Skater Denis Ten. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Denis' family, friends and fans across the world."

“This is truly shocking news,” commented the ISU President Jan Dijkema “Denis Ten was a very talented skater and a true ambassador for Figure Skating.
