Lahore blast : PM Sharif cancels UK visit
Islamabad, Mar 28 (IBNS) Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday cancelled his visit to Britain following the massive blast in Lahore that left over 70 people dead, reports said.
Sharif was scheduled to leave for Britain on Monday but he cancelled his trip. The blast took place on Sunday evening at Gulshan-e- Iqbal Park in Lahore where Christians were celebrating Easter.
Sharif was to meet British prime minister David Cameron and then fly to the US for the Nuclear Security Summit 2016.
He will now travel directly to the US after a couple of days, a foreign ministry spokesperson was quoted as saying.
Jamaatul Ahrar, a splinter group of the Tehreek -i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has owned responsibility for the horrific blast. In a statement, the organisation said that it targeted the Christian community on the occasion of Easter.
