Media Authority Bill: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists warns of long march

Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Shehzada Zulfiqar has warned that a long march will be held if the PM Imran Khan-led government fails to accept their charter of demands.

He made this announcement while delivering his presidential address at a multi-stakeholder journalists’ convention on ‘Legislation, regulation and media crisis’ under the auspices of PFUJ and Bahawalpur Union of Journalists (BhUJ) at the press club here on Monday, reports Dawn News.

Zulfiqar told the newspaper if the government did not accept the union’s demands, including withdrawal of the media authority bill, reinstatement of sacked workers and reversal of pay cuts, a long march would be launched by Nov 12 from Quetta and passing through Karachi, Hyderabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, Faisalabad and Lahore it would culminate in Islamabad.

Jamaat-i-Islami South Punjab Emir Syed Zeeshan Akhtar, Kissan Board chief Jam Hazoor Baksh, former parliamentarian Syed Tabish Alwari, Shahrukh Malik, PTI’s Sumaira Malik, Bahawalpur Suba Mahaz’s Asea Kamil, ANP’s Abida Malik , JUI-F’s Maulana Yaseen Siddiqui (Fazal Group) and others also extended their support to the march.
