Washington/IBNS/UNI: The number of undocumented migrants who crossed the United States border from Mexico in December 2023 exceeded 225,000 people, marking the highest monthly figure since 2000, CNN reported on Saturday, citing preliminary data from the US Department of Homeland Security.

In December, the influx of migrants exceeded 10,000 people per day and only in recent days it began to decline, the report said.

In addition, since the beginning of the month, the number of children illegally crossing the American border increased by 6.5 percent, the report added.

On Friday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott accused US President Joe Biden of destroying the country because of the federal government's stance on undocumented migrants.
