Nepal President directs political parties to forward govt formation
Kathmandu, July 25 (IBNS): After the resignation of KP Oli as the Prime Minister of Nepal, President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday directed the top leaders of three biggest political parties of the country to forward the new government formation process with ease, media reports said.
"She has asked the political parties in the Parliament to elect the Prime Minister on the basis of political consensus within seven days in accordance with clause 2 of Article 298 of the Constitution," The Himalayan Times reported quoting the President’s Office.
Bhandari on Monday invited Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, acting Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the Sheetal Niwas.
This comes after a political crisis has been created in Nepal following Prime Minister KP Oli's resignation on Sunday.
He took the move ahead of the no-confidence vote.
The Himalayan nation had witnessed political crisis after last year's Madhesi protests against the new Constitution.
After the Maoists withdrew support from the coalition government, Oli was facing a no-trust motion.
He was elected as the Prime Minister of the Himalayan nation last October and today resigned from his post after remaining in power for 287 days.
