New York: Bronx apartment fire leaves 16 injured

New York, Jan 2 (IBNS): At least 16 people were injured as a fire hit an apartment building in the Bronx area in New York city, media reports said.

The New York Fire Department said the condition of the injured was non-life threatening.

"#FDNY members continue to operate on scene this morning of a 7-alarm fire, 1547 Commonwealth Ave #Bronx. Currently 16 non life-threatening injuries have been reported," read a tweet on the official Twitter handle of the department.

Incidentally, at least 12 people have been killed as a deadly fire engulfed a century old building in the New York's Bronx borough, reports said.

The incident took place on Thursday night and has been termed as the deadliest fire to hit New York in more than 25 years.
